I put out some sugar water on my patio, the bees were already there looking for something to eat or drink. I decided to hone my skills learned earlier in the month with Photo101 and got flat on the patio and began snapping away. These are two shots I was particularly fond of for the details – both in the bees themselves as well as the patio and afternoon light glistening in the sugar water.
This first shot I call the Supervisor Bee – she looks like she is swooping in to chastise the two that appear to be fighting.
And this photo just for the close-up detail of the honeybee:
Since both bees and cats are plentiful in my yard and it warmed up enough for the girls to come out of the hives, I hung out with the camera snapping away. After cropping it down to focus on these three girls, I decided this shot was my favorite because I love how the sun shows off the wings and how you can see the legs on the middle bee.
On to the four-leggeds….being the cat lady also came in handy for today’s assignment. I was trying to get a shot as Blanca was walking and turning acting all cute and THEN…..she’d jumped to the top of the chair as if to jump ON me….fortunately I captured this shot before she and the chair tumbled in to me! 🙂
And finally, I took this picture one day recently this winter, actually catching the Jay as he left the feeder. I totally claim this as a lucky shot!
Today’s assignment had me running outside several times today to capture different bits of sun and it’s effects throughout the day. This morning, Sparks was on the deck on the south side of the house with the early morning sun:
As the day progressed, the pinecones catching the sun caught my eye:
As the afternoon got warmer, even our bees started flying around. I got up nice and close to the hives and captured the bees flying in and out of the hive, as well as a few just sitting in the sun:
As the day comes to a close, I’m editing this post to add in a warm and late day shot of Peekaboo the kitten:
